Okalawo Children’s Village was founded to respond to the urgent need for safe, long-term care and education for vulnerable children in Zambia, many of whom are affected by extreme poverty, HIV/AIDS, and malaria.
Today, Okalawo is a place of safety, belonging, and hope.
Life Child currently educates children from Grade 1 to Grade 4, while our residential homes continue to welcome a growing number of children in need of stable family care. With the completion of our first cluster of residential homes, we are now able to care for 48 orphaned and vulnerable children, supported by dedicated house mothers who provide daily love, structure, and guidance.
The village clinic is fully operational and serves both our children and families from the surrounding community, ensuring access to basic healthcare where it is often unavailable.
Life Child is devoted to a child, family, and community approach to ministry.
Life Child is committed to a child, family, and community-centred approach. While we walk alongside all families in our programmes, we currently focus intensively on three highly vulnerable families, supporting them through:
Entrepreneurial skills training
Small business initiatives
Practical pathways to self-sufficiency
These initiatives help families stay together, rebuild dignity, and create long-term stability.
Peace School
Peace School, an outreach of the local church in Namunoho, provides holistic education and daily nutritious meals to nearly 500 children from Grade 1 to Grade 6.
In addition to core academics, students receive training in:
Agriculture and animal care
Life skills and vocational foundations
Spiritual, moral, and emotional development
This integrated approach equips children not only to succeed in school, but to build meaningful futures for themselves and their families.
Public health and community wellbeing are central to Peace School’s mission, strengthening the wider community alongside each child.
